A Bonded Pair of Donkeys Rescued After a Decade of Neglect

In July of 2025, we were alerted to a heartbreaking situation: a bonded pair of donkeys left alone in a large field, without proper care, for nearly ten years.

When we arrived, the reality was worse than we could have imagined. The female donkey was in critical condition and could barely stand or walk. Her male companion stayed faithfully by her side, even as she struggled in silence for so long.

Toby’s Rescue and Recovery

With permission to enter the property, we brought them both to safety and named them Toby and Phoebe. Our veterinary and farrier team stepped in immediately. While Phoebe’s condition was devastating, Toby’s overall health gave us hope.

Toby has been adjusting well to his new life. He is receiving proper nutrition, farrier care, and most importantly—companionship, comfort, and love.

Life After Loss

When Phoebe passed away, Toby lost not only his partner but the friend he had shared his life with for close to a decade. We are making sure he is never alone. He is surrounded by care, attention, and affection to help him heal emotionally as well as physically.
